User-Contributed Transcription I did think of getting home last week, but concluded ill things considering to come up this way, and go and attend a great N.H. Central RailRoad Meeting this week at Newport. By the way, I met Mr. S.R. Price our N.H. C. "Agent" in Boston, who desired with much earnestness that I should not engage any where else, said there was prospect Mr. Chase might leave and they would want me immediately! crossed out which put me in mind of Mr. Field's asking me next year when I had charge of the N.H.C.R.R. to give him a Division under me, if he wanted!!But that is all folly Mr. Chase will stay. Mr. C. & Mr. P quarrelled, but I guess it is settled. If I can keep on in good terms with both & all parties, I will do well. I am so at present. Mr. Chase wants me sure, if he goes on, & the Agent & Directors would offer me any thing. Still I may fall through between both, if the Road does not go one. I bought some books in Boston; among the rest, Cheever's Lectures on Pilgrim's Progress, which Joseph wanted to read. I bought a few books at Auction. the temptation was too great, to have money in my pocket and see books sold cheap as that etc. I do want to hear from you all and Joseph especially. I think it too great thing to not turn? up at Newport I shall get home next weekbottom part of the this letter is from two pages previous
