User-Contributed Transcription of hearing Mr Tinker preach every Sabbath. Sabbath priveliges, if they exist at all in this region, are most decidedly of a low character as such. I am very glad to hear that Argyle Ramsey's health is improving. I had begun to fear from what you and Eliab wrote before that Consumption was firmly seated upon him already. Perhaps he had better come to Illinois. This Country is almost or entirely free from Consumption, and the Physicians say that a person with Consumption coming here from the East almost always gets well at once I should think you must be very pleasantly situated in your new boarding place. Hope you will continue to like. It must be much better for you being so much nearer your school. How do you like the new Principal? As for myself, it is very uncertain whether I remain here. I have had a little of the Fever & Ague or Chills and fever, as they call it here, and do not like it. It is not a very bad disease, but troublesome, stupid, and in fact sort of miserable. I was fortunate enough however to be at Locust Hill, & Mrs Roots was kind to me as a Mother. My prospects are very good here if I will stay. With my present pay I can lay by about $1000. per year. But I think I shall not stay for that. I may be able to do very much better. If I should get the Superintendency of 100 or 120 Miles, I should be very pleasantly situated for any Country. Some plenty of Good horses to ride about most of the time, and the rest to oversee
