User-Contributed Transcription Most of the 300 or 320 Miles between Dunleith & St Paul is as I have described. Most is called Lake Pepin some 30 Miles long, is simply the 2 to 5 miles wide river without the islands, but bordered by the same glorious bluffs & prairies.Well really after all I have tried considerable to describe the Upper Missippi (sic). At any rate you may be sure it is worth the seeing.I can hardly tell how long I shall stay up here; probably two weeks or so. There is to be a great Indian Payment some 150 miles up the river this week or next which I want to attend. It is said to be quite an exhibition, then I want to visit both the St Croix valley where the Furbers live, and also the Minnesota River valley which I suspect is to be the great place When I do return I shall probably go by way of Elyria SincerelyIsaac S.
