User-Contributed Transcription Total Expenses $280,00 Since Sept. 1, 1844" Receipts " 240,00 about 18 monthsDebt $ 40,00 Most of which I now owe on my College Term bills, but about $25.00 of which I do not mean to pay at all, being that for Advance Standing. It is rather discouraging after being absent from College for near six months, earning money. & economical as I have been, and then find onesself $40.00 in debt. However not so bad as it might be, supplied with many times twice the money, are much in debt at stores etc. I do not get in debt and only on term bills & those can run. I shall earn this term by building fires etc. etc. some $15. or 20.00, which will keep the term bill along somewhat. Somehow I expect to have some money the first of June to pay for Board bills & incidentals, say $25.00.If Charles can help me to it - good, if not perhaps I can borrow it of Joseph as I did last summer. If I have my health, & the blessing of Providence, and do not get too deep into Society Expenses, I shall be better as well off next spring as this.Perhaps, under all most favorable aspects, and uniform good fortune & health, might get through College by only borrowing $100,00 to pay my Graduating Expenses! I have been extremely economical: can't tell for the future. May yet spend $50.00 for term for societies. I cannot be mean. I think I have done pretty well in dress. $60, or $70,00 is allowed per annum to dress a young man. I have spent $60,00 in 18 months. Had hardly any thing at first. Now can dress decently, pretty good suit of clothes, Cloak etc. Do write. I.S.M.
