User-Contributed Transcription But it is very doubtful. I ought not to depend upon it. So I am a candidate for a good School 25, to 30, dollars per Month, anywhere. if Down east. so I could go home, so much the better. Going right off so, as soon as this term closes, and not to be here at the beginning of the Next I am going to be entirely independent of the 'Mammon'. I can get some clothes, my necessary books etc. get whatever I must have in short, on tick, as others do, and pay when I come back, if it is not until next Febuary or March. Then, if I have my health, and succeed as well this winter as 'maybe be expected' I shall be able to get along comfortably until next August or September. When, if I could borrow a hundred dollars, I could probably graduate from Bowdoin College, A.B. etc.!!! However, I have about made up my mind a whole year beforehand, not to perform at Commencement: which will save some considerable. The fact is, Nature and right, made me, my class being as it is, to take, as a scholar, the highest rank among them: Mind, I say as a mere scholar, not in other things. Circumstances prevent me from taking that rank on College Rank books. Knowing this, I am too proud to go on the stage with any part which the Faculty of Bowd. Coll. according to their ranking system would assign to me. So I judge.
