User-Contributed Transcription Bangor April 21st 1839The class in Latin dont go fast enoughDear Mother I suppose that before this time you know that Joseph has at last arrived safe in these parts. I did not see him till he had been here 6 hours. I had given up the search and suppose he did not come in the Boat. I shall feel much more at east now I have some books. the books were very cheap but miserable paper and miserable binding, in the dict. there is pages missing and other pages put in 2ce. which bothers some. I want to know whether I had better send to Boston for a Greek Grammar and Reader and perhaps Cicero which I shall want pretty soon or buy them here.Since school began, 1 week, we have finished the first book of the Aeneid 200 lines. I had been over it before but not looking at it for so long I find that I cannot learn it any faster than I could at first hardlyI get up in the morning about 5, have 2 fires to make I have to bring water, about 4 pails per diem from the yard across the street, take care of the Cow, bring in wood etc. I have abut finished the wood cutting spliting carrying into the Barn and so forth.Teusday, What beautiful weather, dont it set C. and E. to work. I want a Palmlead hat, my head is to plagy hot. I have been carrying away the banking from the house since Joe was here. If it holds this weather I shall not want a jacket. Mr. Worcester has considerable of a Library, but a large part of it is in foreign languages, French, Spanish, Italian, Latin, Greek etc. etc. Most of the time he is in the house he is reading some french monk and smoking a pipe with his dict. by him he has read thro one work since I've been here, and is now reading the Life of Louis 14th in 4 tomes.[right-hand side] Aint this a good solid letter?
