User-Contributed Transcription or go into business for himself? I have not heard from Milo for some time, not since Mother left there I think, Although first little Charlie, and after Charles & Albina made a nice visit to Bangor. None of them write to me. Charles though did write me a nice letter last Summer or Fall. I wrote a letter to Almeda a week or two since, or not very long agon in Jan. at any rate. Your remarks about Almeda are extremely just. I have been thinking about the same things. I am afraid I hay have been lacking somewhat in duty towards her. As for her children it belongs to Lucy and you to continue, and to Eliab and I to carry out whatever we can. Neither will be backward. I would like to do something for Manie though he is not a boy that suits me exactly. Few boys do. But my business is rather a bad one. No boy or Young person without well formed and strongly fixed principles should be amongs Engineers It would be or is a very bad school for youth, very much of temptation In some respects it is a little akin to the Military profession, as Civil Engineering is in some respects more similar than one would imagine to it, brother or sister art of Military Engineering, the same all engrossing devotion to Mathematics & materiel, instead of - anything else. Science everything, and everything else nothing. Very high notions of honor, and very loose practice of morality. But I remember me of the bird fouling its own nest! It is a Noble profession, & not only that it is Mine
