User-Contributed Transcription Mrs. H. has indicated by a mutual friend that Anna was going to C. & would pass ElyriaNow I must let you into a bit of a secret known only to 2 or 3 of us - Anna & Lucy have been engag'd by Snatches during the winter and spring in writing a kind of narrative of a persons life shaded and colored with fictitious names which they think might possibly amount to something if published possibly it might become a book as there seems to be a taste for all sorts of reading - want your & Nettie's criticism & help to polish & finish - especially yours about ways & means to get published &c. A. think now that she shall go on West as she has intended & perhaps will find some opportunity that suits her for teaching - They have got about 200 pages of manuscript of this narrative but you are solemnly enjoin'd not to mention or allude to it in any of your letters you will at once see the propriety of so doing as it may prove all a failure & they don't want Sam or Eliab or anyone to know - When Anna gets out as far as Chicago if she finds nothing north stopping for she may perhaps proceed onward & bring up with you could she be useful to you in office or "nursery so as to pay her board in the winter? while she avails herself of your & Nettie's help in her undertaking'I think of going when A does as far as Boston & from there alone to N. or W. & am hoping that Charles will go to Warrick in Sept. & come home with me. I suppose he cannot spend long time - Tis doubtful whether I can go to N. Hampshire Should be very glad to see you Father & Mother
