User-Contributed Transcription Monday morn Dec 13 1847My Dear Son You want to know what you are to do with Butter marked Ried Almeda engag'd a Firkin of Butter to Mr. Ried a friend of hers but as she could not I put down some very nice as I could in Sept. & tried & tried to get it to Bangor but behold after I made out to get it started she had forgot or lost the direction the mans given name and the No. of his residence - you will if you please sell it as best you can the avails of it you may keep for me it is my prerequisite or profit of my part of the farm and my work this Summer. Tis possible it may have got too warm sometime (it was in Bunkers store a while) but I should think it is very nice butter you might take it to your boarding place or sell it to Sydney Thaxter for Extra Family Butter or do what you will with it I have Cared for it so long that I am not going to care for it any more - what weather it is I dont see as ever Cavill will go to Bangor or or we have any Flour only borrow Mr. H. Sargent has got the money to send to you to buy him a Barrel of Flour before it rises he heard it was $7.12 1/2 please send the price of butter etc. etc. Samuel handed forth your epistle for Charles Saturday. He (Charles) has been waiting for sleighing to go to B. some time. Will go soon as any snow comes. Hiram waiting cannot write . I purpose to journey to Bangor etc. soon as sleighing Good bye sis Lucy.
