User-Contributed Transcription Brownville June 25 My Dear Son Charles I want you or Albina should write to me while James is gone - Tell me if you have been into the school is it a good school & all about it - & all about the S.S does Mrs S. feel "interested" - does Mrs. Billington attend have you been to see her yet. I forgot to tell you that Hattie Ely said that they had got a new Straw Carpet for the West Chamber & that you or Almeda can have the old one if you think it is worth sending for - they would be glad to have it brought out of the way - there would be enough that's good to cover a bedroom floor. Almeda would send for it if you don't want it as her bedroom is not painted ?. Be sure & tell James whether you want it or not. Would not you do well to come and make your visit here soon as convenient & then send the Lion & Chaise down for Eliab to use a while & for Maria to come up &c. I wish you would in your talk to and about the boys get them to believe that you have great confidence in them. If they feel that you think them correct in their behavior it will have a tendency to make them so - Try to have them willing to tell you everything they say & do - in order to do it, sympathize with them in all their little plans & plays Charles will you read the enclos'd letter to the boys, faithfully get the their attention -don't put them down but encourage them & try to get them to
