User-Contributed Transcription My Dear Children I feel as if I should very much enjoy being with you now you have none but own folks. Given I shall go home in 4 or 5 weeks - perhaps sooner If you find you must get a Stove & a good many other things would not you do well to come down & get them & not stop much. But come down and make your visit after I get home. It seems as if you wouldn't leave home both together so well before, as after I get home as I could help take care Eliab is now gone to Boston. Sam'l talks of going to Pennsylvania. Whether you think of ever leaving Milo or not now is a good starting point a good time to begin any new regulations O that you would be wise that you would be willing to do what you know & feel to be duty. How nice it would be Albina if you & Charles could get your supper & chores all out of the way before dark & then set out your table & lights * Books & make a settled point of instructing the children they are old enough to learn a great many things - besides beginning to read there is a great many way in which such children [left-hand side and top] Charlie you know will be round with you and there's scarcely an hour in the day but you may be learning him something pulling out words - learning him names of newer terms etc. to count to add numbers etc. etc. work he will learn easy enough you'll need to keep his mind from work - but first and foremost an exact obedience - he is very prone to disobedience in little things is not willful about it but needs vigilant watchfulness with a great portion of patience and Mildness Alas how much easier to tell than to do Who is sufficient for these things but be not weary in well doing How reasonably & proper to daily seek the help and blessing of God in such an arduous but delightful work Tell Charlie to be a good boy & remember all Aunt Lucy has learn't him I will try to write to him one of these days much love to each & all of you Do write to your Mother
