User-Contributed Transcription Dear Brother IsaacI only put in a few words on business before this letter is sealed up. You are aware that our Mother, like most other people in this world, occasionally wants to use a little filthy lucre* - she as little probably as most people As it was our brother Joseph's request that she should receive something from his property if needed. I think it would be extremely gratifying to her if you would write to Samuel authorizing him to hand her 50 or 100 dollars (I believe he is owing you), so that she can have a store of her own to go with out being dependent upon two, three, or five dollars at a time as she needs to use it. If you think of it you will perceive that with her sensitive and independent feelings it would be much pleasanter. She really wants to go to Mass. next summer & I think ought to go - of course will need some fitting out. do not write in answer to this as Anna & I have conferred together & write accordingly, but as if it were your own thoughts and wish. Such a sum would last her a long time you know-and if youNote: lucre is money
