User-Contributed Transcription Coertion or by habit before he would feel interested about learning. I felt when he was here that it would be better for him to make him know that he must stand up straight try to read as well as he could not leave it at his option I cant but think he will love his book if he can only get so as to read right off and understand what he reads Is James coming to board & go to school & work for his board will it be a benefit to Charles & Josie or not perhaps you can make a benefit I suppose he is more of a man than he was once I should think it would be better for him & you Charles for you to be with him exercising a constant influence and control over him James has the stuff in him to make a Smart man tis of very great importance what ideas & what principles he imbibes now it is the farming state with his mind now the "Seed times,, And habit once out on are hard to get off - try to make him feel right & do right. also reprove him if he is not neat in his person and Gentlemanly in his manners every day all the time and it will help to make Charles & Josie do these are little things as Lucy says but a good habit is just as easy when once form'd as a bad one I think you have not been careful enough about these things & I know I have not. Do write good long letters to me often all about the Children & all affairs at home my love to Mr. Sargent & wife - and all that care anything about & May God be with you & bless you.
