User-Contributed Transcription I had a letter from Almeda 19th Feb. Mr. Rider was failing very fast or rather he was suffering very much - I suppose has suffer'd ten times more with hunger than a person would in starving to death It is very trying for him, he liv'd about two weeks on, only sweetened water, but when she wrote could take very thin chicken broth - O it must be very dreadful for Almeda the smell is so very offensive it seems to me it would be more than I could bearSam'l is making boxes to pack ins goods in is intending to carry his two bureaus & his large Secretary a Table, 3 Feather beds, lot of bedding &c &c. I suppose he has not fully decided the matter but I think he will conclude to leave Percie with me at Milo - I feel as if Percie ought to be with me at present - It was Lucys wish that he should I would williingly go to Elyria with Sam'l if it were not that I have not been at Charles's hardly since I came from there & & have seen Almeda but very little in all the last two years - I know that I can really do her no good but I must sympathise with her in her trouble - besides I very much doubt whether Percie or I should be
