Description Tableau 22 in atlas: Illustrations to Maximilian, Prince of Wied's Travels in the interior of North America. A copy of a drawing done by Mandan chief Mato-Tope depicting an insident in his life with a Cheyenne chief. Mato-Tope is on the left with a tomahawk in his hand and is substaining an injury before he conquires the Cheyenne chief. In 1836 Maximilian commissioned Bodmer to create illustrations to accompany the text of his atlas documenting their travels. These illustrations include 81 plates of aquatints.
