Description Tableau 19 in atlas: Illustrations to Maximilian, Prince of Wied's Travels in the interior of North America. View of the interior of the various elements of a Mandan lodge. Shields, lances and medicine symbols of the chief hang from the pillars. Various utensils and containers are scattered around the floor. There is the family bed against the back wall, and the family horses and dogs are included in the scene. In 1836 Maximilian commissioned Bodmer to create illustrations to accompany the text of his atlas documenting their travels. These illustrations include 81 plates of aquatints.
