Title Prise de Newport par d'Estaing, 1778 : Embossage de Ternay à Newport, 1780 
Description 1 ms. map ; on sheet 988 x 556 mm.; Pen-and-ink and pencil on tracing paper; sectioned into 21 panels, mounted on cloth.; Map of Newport and Narragansett Bay (R.I.) probably traced in the nineteenth century from an unidentified manuscript (in French naval archives?).
Shows the August 1778 maneuvers by the French fleet commanded by Charles Henri, Comte d' Estaing against British forces during the siege of Newport. Also shows the fleet commanded by Charles Louis d'Arsac, Chevalier de Ternay, as stationed in 1780.; Identifies French and British ships, army camps, and fortifications, but lacks key corresponding to lettered land sites.
