Summary H. Newhall autographed letter to Benjamin Hodge, a nurseryman of Bufflalo, New York, dated March 7, 1848. Letter outlines order for fruit and other trees. "Below I send you a list of fruit trees which I wish you send me on the opening of navigation. If you can not fill the whole order with good thrifty trees write me immediately what ones you can not furnish. I want none but those of good size for seting. I am going to put out about 6 acres this spring and if I can make them do well I intend to enlarge next fall or next spring. I have 50 arcres (as I told you last fall when I was at your place) 3 miles from the city and I am going to spare no pains in seting what I put out this fall. Be sure delay to late and be sure and not have them taken up so as to dry before they are sent [...]" A large order for pears, peaches, cherries ("I would like a few trees of hardy cherries if I thought I could make them grow and live [...]", and grape vines is listed.
