Summary
Correspondence, 1824-1834, of George Davenport regarding Indian and fur trade matters. Subjects include the pursuit by a Sauk and Fox war party of Sioux believed to have killed a party of white cattle drivers and their herd (1824); trade with the Winnebagos on the Rock River (1826); territorial incursions by other American Fur Company trade outfits (1826); the apprehension of Fox Indians responsible for murdering Menominee and Winnebago Indians (1834); and a controversy regarding the delivery of annuity goods (1834). Correspondents, all in St. Louis, include Oliver N. Bostwick and Russell Farnham (American Fur Company agents), and Pratte, Chouteau and Company (purchaser in 1834 of the Western Department of the American Fur Company)
