Summary Reduced photographic reproduction of 1866 manuscript map of the West (U.S.); roughly bounded by Idaho, the Dakotas, Utah and Kansas. Compiled under the direction of U.S. Major General Grenville Mellen Dodge in 1866, the same year as his appointment as Chief Engineer of the Union Pacific Railroad Company. Shows extent of UPRR construction, numerous U.S. military posts, army expedition routes variously dated 1843-1860, wagon roads, and trails. Includes distance tables.
