Summary
Feb. 23, 1907, letter from Cuthbert W. Pound to William Holland Samson, a Rochester journalist and historian particularly interested in the history of western New York and its Indian tribes, regarding the governor's decision on a bill relating to a claim filed in 1906 by attorneys of the Cayuga Nation. The tribe had requested that profits realized by the state in the sale of Cayuga land cessions dating from the treaty of 1789 be paid to the Nation, or that the state's indebtedness to the tribe be acknowledged. Pound reports that the claim "did not impress the governor," that he regarded "the claim as a stale claim," and that he "declined to sign the bill."
