Summary April 3, 1782, letter from Pickens to Col. Elijah Clarke of the Georgia militia, regarding Pickens' second expedition to the Cherokee Nation during March, 1782. Pickens discusses the mission's problems, including the failure of previously committed troops to materialize, snowy weather, and the inability to obtain corn and other provisions from the deserted Cherokee towns. Pickens reports that the force reached the Cherokee town of Coosa, where they took several captives, held an officers' council, and determined to turn back before reaching their objective, the Middle Towns. 
Biographical/Historical Note Revolutionary War soldier, Congressman, and Indian diplomat. During 1782, Pickens led three expeditions to the Cherokee country.
