Summary Letter, dated Nov. 1, 1841 in Davenport, Iowa, from Antoine Le Claire to Mr. Pierre Chouteau, Jr., in St. Louis, regarding payment of a debt. Le Claire, one of the founders of the city of Davenport, Iowa, discusses the money he owes to Chouteau, which he cannot pay even though he is owed quite a lot, and then proceeds to ask Chouteau to lend him 1000 piastres.  George Davenport , who has delivered the letter, will pay Chouteau this amount, and assume Le Claire's debt. Le Claire closes by referring to Chouteau's possible purchase of lands from the Sauk and Fox Indians in the spring, in Washington, and is hopeful that he will soon be able to repay both the principal and interest on the loan.
