Summary January 17, 1780, letter from Col. Richard Parker in Augusta, Ga., to Maj. Gen. Lincoln, who was in Charleston preparing for the impending attack of Sir Henry Clinton and the British fleet, reporting that Indians had arrived in Savannah "with an intention of distressing this country." Parker also notes that British soldiers of the 60th and 16th regiments who had embarked at Sunbury, Ga., for "Augustine", would have deserted if given the opportunity. 
Biographical/Historical Note Virginia Revolutionary War colonel who died May 8, 1780, of wounds received during the siege of Charleston. Appointed colonel of the 1st Virginia Regiment (Continental Line) in 1778, Parker moved his troops south to Augusta, Ga., the following summer, where they defended the Georgia frontier under the command of Maj. Gen. Benjamin Lincoln.
