Summary Sept., 13, 1792, letter from George Hammond to John Graves Simcoe, British lieutenant-governor of Upper Canada, 1791-1794, enlisting Simcoe's assistance in the rescue of Oliver M. Spencer from Indian captivity. Spencer, the son of a prominent Cincinnati area (Columbia) settler who had emigrated from New Jersey in 1790, was seized by a party of Indians, July 7, 1792, while enroute from Fort Washington to his home.  With the intercession of Simcoe, Spencer was finally rescued near Detroit in Feb., 1793.
