Summary
A copy of a memorandum written Oct. 24, 1709 by Joseph Dudley, Governor of Massachusetts, addressed to the British Board of Ordnance. In this document, Dudley briefly reports on the military plans involved in undertaking an expedition against Nova Scotia, particularly Port Royal (later renamed Annapolis Royal). Some details are given regarding troop and naval preparations as well as a request to maintain present troop levels until all of the expedition forces are ready.
Biographical/Historical Note
Under the leadership of Samuel Vetch and Francis Nicholson, the British colonies made preparations in 1709 to conquer Nova Scotia. Following delays due to troop shortages, the planned offence and conquest occurred late in 1710.
