User-Contributed Transcription Don't interrupt your labors to answer
this bit of chatter from a tree in
which I am hiding with other anthropoid apes.

about '56
Gene Fowler

Dear Benny:
So glad to receive your scribble,
as always, but disturbed no little
to hear of the disintegration of our
pal.  It is hard, always, to write
off a life. God knows I'd hock
everything... or what is left of my
small everything... to come East if
I could in any way act as an aged
and infirm marine.
As to your own problems, you
will resolve them in your own good
way and in your own good time.
[1956 about the boycott]
Groups, or even nations, can bar
products,  but never talent. And
though posterity's verdicts cannot
now cheer you, your great work will
be long remembered.
Book writing -- as I have learned --
is a luxury. But some of us are
addicts.
Think you may enjoy the Durante
book. By no means a classic, but
here and there containing a element
of laughter and good will.   Had
occasion, of course to mention you
and the good Mac Arthur in the
pages.
With love to the family
and much devotion to
yourself, Pax vobis cum.
