Description Drawing No. 41. War chief of the Mandan Indian tribe.  He is depicted wearing a very elaborate skin dress, decorated with embroidery, a quilled rosette, ermine tails, scalp locks and feathers.  His elaborate headdress of War Eagle plumes reaches to the ground and is decorated with horns, denoting his status as Head War Chief of the Mandan Tribe.   In his hand he holds a lance or spear heavily decorated with feathers and animal skins.
