Drawing No. 43. Head (civil) chief of the Mandan tribe in a long skin dress decorated with scalp locks, beadwork and feathers. He is wearing several beaded necklaces and a peace medal. His headdress is made of feathers and he is wearing face paint. He is holding two peace pipes (calumets).
