Summary
Grant of land, signed and dated in Québec on July 31, 1665 by Charles de Lauson de Charny, the profits of which are designated for the benefit of the poor of Québec. Rents and profits from a parcel of land which measures sixteen arpents by two arpents of frontage along the Lauson shore of the St. Lawrence River, with water rights to a depth of forty arpents, are to be administered by Mother Marie de St. Bonaventure de Jesus, superior of the hospitaller nuns of Misericordia at the Hôtel-Dieu de Québec, and Mother Marie de la Nativité, for charitable uses. Income includes annual rent of twenty sols from each tenant, capons, and beeswax; hunting and fishing rights; rights to sell eels and other fish taken from the waters named in the concession; exemption from payment of interests, penalties, or damages done to the lands by work animals; and rights to have their grain ground in any mills built on the property. The grant was executed by the notary Pierre Duquet, whose signature appears below, along with those of Lauson de Charny, and witnesses Dr. Therou, surgeon, and Jacques de la Métairie, notary of Fort Frontenac in New France, who later served as notary for the 1682 La Salle expedition to the mouth of the Mississippi.
