Summary Ms. rent register, possibly a municipal or estate record compiled in Marmande between 1522 and 1657, in which are recorded leases to local farmers for farmland and vineyards, a number of them in the parish of Coussan, with some references to the nearby town of Bazas. The first group of entries, arranged two or three per page, are dated 1537-1539, and include name of tenant, location of property, name of notary in whose presence the lease was executed, and amount of rent to be paid. Below the main entry, rent payments are recorded, along with miscellaneous notes. Entries in the section entitled "Sensuyvent les rentes du livre ancien couvert en parchemin ...", beginning on the verso of leaf 19, are dated between 1522 and 1528, and include notes added in 1537 and 1552 about what happened to the properties in later years, and which widows assumed the leases of their former husbands; one note describes a pending lawsuit involving the lease. Leaves 14 and 15 contain depositions dated 1553 and 1555 by a witness from Bazas. Beginning on leaf 15, entries contain notes referring to leases and land transactions between 1634 and 1657.
