Summary Translation in Otomi from around 1600 of the Nahuatl text of Coloquios de la paz y tranquilidad, a compilation of parables and moral lessons composed by the Franciscan missionary Father Juan de Gaona. The "coloquios" contain lessons and parables from the Bible for teaching the rewards of a virtuous life, the ephemerality of human existence, and the endurance of suffering and trials as a means to achieving peace and salvation.  Included with the Coloquios is a second ms.--anonymous, but perhaps copied from an earlier work--containing important prayers in Otomi, such as the Persignum Crucis, Pater Noster, Ave Maria, Credo, and Salve Regina; and translations in Otomi of the Articles of Faith, the Ten Commandments, commandments of the Church, the Sacraments, theological and cardinal virtues, acts of charity, and the Beatitudes.  There is also a short catechism on the Holy Trinity, and a confession, based on the Ten Commandments.
