Summary Brief petition of Gabriel López de Bonilla to the Inquisitors of Mexico City, requesting official permission to publish an astronomical almanac for 1656. López de Bonilla justifies his request by stating that his astronomical work would be "useful and necessary" for agriculture, medicine, and navigation.  The review of his petition, noted in a different hand, presumably that of an Inquisition official whose signature also appears beneath, was conducted by the Inquisitors Pedro de Medina Rico, Francisco de Estrada y Escobedo, Juan Sáenz de Mañozca, and Bernabé de la Higuera y Amarilla.
Biographical/Historical Note Mexican astronomer, professor of mathematics, and author of several scientific almanacs. His Disertación cometográfica sobre el cometa aparecido en México el mes de diciembre de 1652 was published in Mexico in 1653 by Bernardo Calderón.
