Papers of Chauncey Whittelsey (1746-1812) of Middletown, Connecticut, relating to his clothing business, civic duties and activities as Army supplier during the Revolution and into the 1790s. Includes numerous land deeds to his father-in-law, Seth Wetmore.

At a general Assembly of the State of Connecticut, holden at Newhaven on the 2d. Thursday of October, Anno Dom. 1790Upon the Petition of Theophilus Merriman of Wallingford in the County of New Haven shewing to this Assembly that in the year AD 1771 he the said Merriman purchased of James Jauncey of the City & County of New York his the said Jaunceys part & proportion in seventy Acres of Land & a Dwelling House, sutuate in said Wallingford, being Lands which David Cook by Deed dated January 14th AD 1763 conveyed to said Jauncey & John Smith, together with said Jaunceys right & Interests in certain Lands, sutuate in said Wallingford on the North Side of the Country road, which said Cook purchased of Nathaniel Curtiss & Stephen Peck & by said Deed conveyed to said Smith and Jauncey, and that he the said Merriman has received no Deed of said Lands from said Jauncey & that said Jaunceys estate hath since been confiscated to & for the use of this State, praying? that some suitable may be authorised to remain & release & quit claim to said Petitioner his Heirs & Assigns, all right tittle Interest & estate which this State derived & acquired in & upon said described Lands by virtue of said Jaunceys estates being confiscated as aforesaid as by Petition on file.Resolved by this Assembly that Chauncey Whittlesey of Middletown in Middlesex County late Administrator on the confiscated estate of said Jauncey be & he is hereby authorised & impowered in behalf of this State to make, execute & acknowledge a Deed of said Lands to said Theophilus his Heirs & Assigns, therein & thereby remising, releasing and quitclaiming to said Theophilus his Heirs & Assigns all right & tittle Interest & estate, which this State, derived & acquired in & upon said described Lands by virtue of said Confiscation of said Jaunceys estate as aforesaid.A true Copy of RecordExamind.
