Description Woodcut title vignette of Christopher Columbus, with navigational instruments; t.p. within an ornamental woodcut border; text within a heavy black ruled border; calendars in black and red; black letter type.
Woodcut illustration on p. [28]; calendars include black and red symbols for tracking the planets, the moon, the Zodiac, weather conditions, and auspicious times for performing certain activities such as planting, chopping timber, cutting hair, trimming fingernails, and administering pills and purges.
Includes calendars, listing saints' days, astrological information, and weather forecasts, a calendar of market days for different towns and villages, and essays on the discovery and conquest of America, descriptions of the New World, and observations on the nature, character, food, and religion of its inhabitants.
Signatures: [A]² ([A]₁+[B]⁴ ([B]₂+C⁴ (C₂+D⁴))) chi² (chi₂+[cross]²), in which gathering A is wrapped around B, which is wrapped around C, which is wrapped around D; gatherings chi and [cross] are nested separately in a similar fashion.
