My dear Sir-
Just after I had sent a letter to Mr. French, acknowledging, and making comments [insert]upon[/insert] certain of the reviews which had appeared - and which he had kindly sent to me, I had the pleasure of receiving a communication from you, together with a newspaper containing a very remarkable sermon upon Millets "Angel[?]s, and my own painting of "The Innocents" I put your letter, and the journal apart with the greatest caution for early attention. Serious matters occurred to retard writing and when free all my efforts have failed to recover
