Chicago, July 2nd 1869
My dear wife
I arrived on time this morning 9 o'clock - All well - Morgan says that your Father is very much better - It has rained here every day since we left and the country about Chicago is completely flooded - I have not been to the house yet but shall go at [[noon?]] Sam says that everything is all right, the only that has troubled him has been the rats
- I was not so anxious to reach Chicago as usual - it seems pretty hard to be away from my family so long, but it will probably be for the best - You must enjoy yourself all you can - I think that it will do you and the children much good - Tell Nelly and [[Mamie?]] that I send them lots of kisses and that they must not forget their papa - with much love to you all I remain as ever your
Chas. A. Morse
