Summary
June 17, 1852, letter from Elizabeth F. Barker at the Baptist Shawnee Mission in Indian Territory (now Kansas) to her husband, Rev. Francis Barker, a missionary to the Shawnee Indians then visiting family in South Hanson, Mass. Included are discussions of serious illness, religious services, the threat of an onslaught of white settlers from the East, and a visit by a Mr. "Southerland," who was obtaining statistics for an account of missionary schools in the Indian Territory. There are also reminders to discuss the poor condition of mission housing and grounds with the "Committee," and remarks about and to her children at home (Sophronia, b. 1846) and in Massachusetts (Mary Francis, b. 1840, and William Bowen, b. 1842)
