Summary Diary, Oct. 9, 1907 - Nov. 29, 1910, in which Jno. T. Frater recorded his activities and observations as agent among the Chippewas at the Leech Lake Agency, Onigum, Minn. Included are matters of agency administration (staffing, construction projects, procurement of fuel, wood, ice, and other supplies, school problems, visits of special agents, transportation, etc.), as well as reports of crimes, accidents, and illnesses that required the agent's attention. Frater also notes his attendance at councils convened by the Chippewa to appoint an independent attorney to represent the tribe's interests to the Commissioner of Indian Affairs. 
Biographical/Historical Note Minnesota public official and Indian agent. Born in Ohio in 1848, Frater moved to Brainerd, Minn., in 1881.  He served as Crow Wing County treasurer, 1888-1904, state senator, 1905, and Indian agent at the Leech Lake Agency from Aug. 7, 1906, until at least 1910.
