Description The name "Chirsisest" (or "Lhirsisest") is probably a mistaken transcription of Jacques L'Hermite's name; L'Hermite was a French army engineer, staff officer, and town major of Placentia, Newfoundland known to have mapped regions in New France.  Cf. map held by the Library of Congress: Carte de la baie des Chaleurs à la côte occidentale du golfe de St. Laurent / levée en 1724 par Mr. L'Hermite, ingénieur du roi, rédigé au Dépôt général des cartes, plans et journaux de la marine par ordre de M. de Sartine.  [Paris]: Dépôt général de la marine, 1780.  Cf. the British Library Map Catalogue on CD-ROM (Maps 147.e.7.(22.)).

Summary Coastal chart of northeast New Brunswick and the southeastern portion of the Gaspé Peninsula on the Gulf of Saint Lawrence; details Gaspé Bay, Chaleaur Bay and Miramichi Bay.  Side margins include the extensive "explication des remarques" keyed to lettered locations on the map.
