User-Contributed Transcription I did not go to meeting next day - and Monday, I presentedmy self before the "chief of the goodly-house", to lay mycase before her. She immediately excused me from calisthenics, and from walking, but said I must ride as a substitute. I have rode 3 times. I enjoyed it very much. Wewent down to the New City last Saturday - had a splendidtime. I also went to Grunby & Hokanumb [Hockanum]. I hope nowto be able to walk. I went out today for the first time andwent 1/2 a mile but was somewhat tired. My food I thinkI can safely say is better. I wore a shoe most of the day yesterday. The bunch is still there and a little painfulbut not so bad as when I was at home. The rest of myfoot is not swollen but very little. I still continue tobathe it in the wash Dr. Taylor prepared for me, andI rub it a great deal. You spoke of sending some ointment, but I don't think you better. If it is any worseI will write immediately. Miss Peath is very kind tome. I work on the Miscellaneous Circle all the timeI sit while at work, so it is very easy. My health otherwiseis quite good. Much better than when at home. Butour Holyoke home is visited with sickness. At the presenttime the occupants of the rooms in the second story of thewing are obliged to vacate them; the sick-rooms not beingsufficient to accommodate. One young lady has had thecluck-tongue; the worst kind of erysipelas. The same thata young lady, (Miss Wingate) died with last year. Brain fevers, pleurisy, mumps, & colds are the varying diseases. Three youngladies were not expected last week to recover but they are
