User-Contributed Transcription Circle, superintending all my family matters and keeping the children clothed and dressed for school and society and attending to their training; that I do not neglect for anything; sometimes I feel we are too strict with them but I would a thousand times rather be so than to fall in to the looseness of the present age in managing children. I feel much stronger here than I did in St Louis. The children are all well and strong save Clara. We sometimes fear she may not grow to womanhood she is so slenderly made and so sensitive physically and mentally. I have taught her at home until this Spring and Summer she has been in school; is learning finely and enjoys going very much. doesn't like to be out a day. We make it as easy for her as we can and give her all the exercise we can. Lydia has been vising through the Summer but will be with me this Winter and I shall give up my girl this week and we shall do our work together times are so hard. Mother Weaver is to visit us a while soon for the first time. Helen and her husband have made us a visit this summer & Brother Andrew. Cousin Rebecca writes me that Raymond is a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Missouri Army. He has not written us since we came here although Mr Weaver & Abby have written him twice (inserted) perhaps letters have not reached him. His school was doing well in the Spring term we learned. Have heard from Jesse several times this Summer by letter; he was at [[Cairo?]] in Spring but is now Assistant [[Comissary?]] in the 31st Indiana regiment who were until recently in camp near Terre Haute. Edwin is well. Myron has written of what he is doing. Will you write of Erasmus; Myron wrote he had visited you. Cousin Sophie buried a fine healthy boy of eleven months a few weeks ago of brain fever.
