Some correspondence and documents concern travel to California begun in 1849.

I dread teachingwith him for we are so unlike & he is differentfrom any person I've ever been acquainted withI hardly know yet how to take him shall likehim I presume when I know him better - He thinksthere is no need of ones caring for anything that issaid n done that it is all foolishness & every onemay overcome it if they choose. Many of the people& scholars feel as if he would hardly answeras he has been a scholar but I tell them thatI think there will be no trouble. The trusteessaid that they wished nothing changed in schooland that I'd see that everything was carried on as before I told them that I should have nothingto do with the school if there was any changeMr. H. proposed having all the chapel exercisesdispensed with but I told him that I couldconsent to have nothing but prayer omited andnot that if he could be disposed to lead in it. I hope Mr. Barron will be there a part ofthe time - He has said nothing in regard to thelessons only spoke of several that he was to have
