User-Contributed Transcription 3rd - create the idea in the child that paintin is a pleasure to do & should be enjoyed by doing. This by the care of the materiels - Silence in the room - except as the child might wish to talk about something connected with the work - at the slightes sign of boredom or desire to talk about other things too much, work should be stopped or better still if you have clay to start working with that for a while - a small child has only short endurance which should not be strained but a switch to another medium will keep it in that train of thought and then later they will go back to the painting - and by the way when you make the switch do it simply - explanations and much movements confuse a child - the best way is when you see the signs to quietly get a piece of clay & simply say "Here work with this awhile" Also the word "work" should be used in preference to "paint" "model" etc. this eventually sinks into the child's conciousness in his attitude.
Praise her - but only when she has done somehting you know is the best of her capabilities– this encourages her to reach out always –
The same with critizism - very good for child but she must feel it is just - you can keep on the line in this by critizing only from her point of view that is "that wasn't as well done as the other picture you made" - that kind of thing if you get what I mean- mostly I think it's important never to say "It doesn't
