Dear Rose,
What a difference a day (or 2) makes!
After writing this letter to you, I took the bull
by the horns, checked out of the hotel &
found a lovely one right down the street.
They didn't have a single ready for me so
they put me into a lovely double for the
price of a single. An additional bargain
is that my window overlooks an
open cinema and at night I see
"free movies." To boot, I encountered
(during one of my many hikes) a very
nice, charming gentleman (he's probably
around 40, or a bit older) who has volunteered
his time to show me around Rome. I
refused his first offer for dinner but upon
getting to know him a little better (over a
few cups of capucino) I've decided it's
all quite "proper." He's really quite
interesting, not at all the type I
fall for -- he's nothing too much
to look at, but very soft spoken, intelligent,
