Dear Mr. Hecht:
The first fan letter I ever wrote
was to F.D.R. when I was ten. This is my
second, and I am now twenty-six. My
father dictated the first one, explaining
the value the great man's signature
would have in years to come. Mary
Le Hand answered my note and I was
crushed.
This one I write of my own volition,
not only for myself, but more for my husband
who is probably your greatest unknown
admirer.
We have read, reread and discussed
just about everything you have written
that we could find. Eddie has gone out of
his way to see every picture you've
ever scripted, and could probably,
with a short rehearsal, take just about
any part in "Twentieth Century," "The Front
Page," et al. You have been dear to
our hearts for many years. You've
often mentioned your own fine qualities
and abilities, so we can do little more
