Summary Two letters, to James Constantine Pilling (Apr. 11, 1887) and to Hibben & Co. (Jan. 22, 1892), regarding Ridley's translation of religious texts into Tsimshian. Ridley also informs his correspondents of Alfred Hall's work with Kwakiutl, J.B. McCullagh's work with Niska, and Rev. C. Harrison's work with Haida.

Biographical/Historical Note Anglican bishop of Caledonia. Prior to his appointment as bishop in 1879, Ridley served in Peshawar and Afghanistan, 1866-1869, in Dresden, 1869-1872, and in England, 1874-1879. He is the author of a grammar of the Tsimshian language, and of translations of the Book of Common Prayer and the New Testament into that language.
