Summary Copy of correspondence written by Samuel Vetch and Francis Nicholson to the governors of Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island on Apr. 30, 1709. In these letters, all similarly worded, Vetch provides an outline of a proposed Canada expedition against the French forces.  He states that it is her majesties "intended Expedition, to Drive the French wholly out of the Continent of America, according to a Scheme laid before her by me some time agoe."  Vetch requests that the governors raise troops for the expedition and that they convene in Albany along with a force of Indians during the month of May.
Biographical/Historical Note Samuel Vetch and Francis Nicholson were actively engaged in the military conquest of Nova Scotia during Queen Anne's War, 1702-1713. During the spring of 1709 a joint attack against Port Royal, Nova Scotia was proposed, but the expedition was aborted due to the lack of sufficient supplies and troops.
