Summary Account by Fevret de Saint-Mesmin of travels with his son through parts of Europe, England, Canada, and New York between March 27 and October 26, 1793. The journal begins with Cahier 1, when the travelers depart from Fribourg, Switzerland on March 27, 1793. They tour the German cities of Frankfort, Heidelburg, Darmstadt, Koblenz, Cologne, and Dusseldorf, before travelling on to Holland on April 17, as described in Cahier 2. On May 7, Fevret and his son sail to London on the ship "Prince of Wales," and Cahiers 3-4 are devoted to descriptions of English sights, including St. James Palace, Whitehall, Kensington Garden, Greenwich, and the paintings seen in various exhibitions and galleries. Fevret adds historical notes as well, throughout the text. After touring other English areas such as Oxford, Bristol, and Cornwall, they set sail from the port of Falmouth on June 12, 1793 for Halifax, Nova Scotia, where they stay from June 16 to Sept. 14. The route from Halifax to New York which they follow between Sept. 14 and Oct. 19, takes them through the Gulf of St. Lawrence, along the St. Lawrence River to Quebec, Montreal, Lake Champlain, Albany, the Hudson River, and Niagara Falls, Ticonderoga, and Saratoga, and they include descriptions of the Huron Indians and other native peoples along the way. The journal ends abruptly as Fevret and his son finally arrive in New York City on Oct. 26, 1793.
