User-Contributed Transcription -2-As a person trying to write, I would say it is a dazzling job, easy and liquid prose, everything clicks. It is a good job, however dull.As a reader who thinks about what he reads, and tries to gain something from it, I would say it is a fraud. "Write truly," Mr. H. has said. What Cuban fisherman calls the fish he catches for a livelihood "my brother?" (But do not call it a parable.) It is a parable, the shabby and obvious kind that appears daily in political cartoons (or is that allegory?) with everything nearly labeled, "Greed," "Hate," "Gov. Corruption."And oh, the "Humility" of it! Can anyone write of humility (it is a thing, when you are cursed with it, that you do not parade, - or perhaps it is a thing born in you, like a bald head, you have it, but the discovery of it comes as a not completely happy surprise) who is so brassily arrogant? If it is so, it is a miracle of projection. Finally, what the hell is the good of the language if we are down to 4-letter words? What follows, 3-letter ones? The monotonous pedestrianism, the self-conscious simplicity of that kind of writing (and reading, [boss?]) will have us all back to simple ejaculations like "Arp!"I've just finished G.B. Stern's "Woman in the Hall." It may not be "Great", and his prose weaves and bobs, but, oh, it is an enjoyable experience!Neck out,Blake.(over)Rogers' Memorial Sanitarium,Oconomowoc, Wis.
